Credit Card Payment Declined When Paying an Invoice? Check Your Pop-Up Blocker
On this page
If a customer's credit card keeps getting declined on a Truss invoice, a blocked pop-up window — not the card itself — is usually the cause.
If you're trying to pay a Truss invoice with a credit card and the payment keeps getting declined, the most common cause isn't your card — it's your browser blocking a pop-up window.
Quick fix
Check whether pop-ups are blocked in your browser for this site. Allowing pop-ups lets the verification window appear so you can complete the payment.
Why this happens
When you pay by credit card, your bank may open a small verification window to confirm the payment is really you (standard card security, similar to what you'd see on other checkout sites). This step is called 3D Secure (3DS), and it runs in a pop-up. If your browser is set to block pop-ups, you won't see the 3DS window — it never opens, and the payment fails or shows as declined even though there's nothing wrong with your card.
How to check if pop-ups are blocked
Chrome
- Click the icon in the address bar (it may look like a small window with an X, or a lock icon).
- Select "Always allow pop-ups from this site."
- Refresh the payment page and try again.
Safari
- Go to Safari > Settings > Websites > Pop-up Windows.
- Find the invoice/payment portal site and set it to "Allow."
- Refresh the page and retry your payment.
Firefox
- Look for the pop-up blocked notification near the address bar.
- Click "Options" and choose "Allow pop-ups."
- Retry the payment.
Edge
- Click the icon in the address bar when the pop-up is blocked.
- Select "Always allow" for the site.
- Retry the payment.
Using a different browser?
Most browsers show a similar icon or notification in the address bar when a pop-up is blocked — look for a small window icon or a banner near the top of the page, and choose "Allow" or "Always allow" for this site. If you can't find the setting, check your browser's Settings or Preferences menu under "Site permissions" or "Pop-ups."
Still declined after allowing pop-ups?
- Try a different browser or an incognito/private window, in case an extension (like an ad blocker) is interfering.
- Double-check the card details (number, expiration, CVV, billing zip) are entered correctly.
- Contact your card issuer to confirm the card isn't blocking the charge on their end.
- If the payment still won't go through, reach out to Truss support at support@trusspayments.com (Mon–Fri 8AM–8PM ET, Sat–Sun 11AM–5PM ET) with the invoice number and approximate time of the attempt.
