Truss + JobTread Integration — Getting Started with QuickBooks Online

New to Truss and also using QuickBooks Online. Connect Truss to both QBO and JobTread so invoices sync from JobTread and bills flow through QBO.

Here's a look at JobTread's Integrations page — this is where you'll connect Truss (Settings → Integrations):

What is Truss?

Truss is a payments platform built for construction and contracting businesses. It's where you collect invoice payments from customers and pay your bills — all in one place. When connected to JobTread, invoices you send in JobTread can be paid directly by your customers, with payment tracked automatically in Truss.

Signing up for Truss gives you a real business checking account, with its own routing number and account number, just like a bank account. You can also get cards tied to the account for day-to-day business spending.

This article is for new Truss clients who also use QuickBooks Online (QBO)
You'll connect Truss to both QBO and JobTread — invoices sync from JobTread directly, and bills flow through QBO, as covered step by step below. If you don't use QBO, see Truss + JobTread Integration — Getting Started (New to Truss) instead.

Create your Truss account

  1. In JobTread, go to Settings → Integrations and click Connect next to Truss — this can kick off account creation for you if you don't have one yet.

  2. Follow the prompts to enter your business information and create your Truss login.

  3. Complete any identity or business verification steps Truss requires.

Verification can take a little time
If your account isn't fully active right away, that's normal — check back or contact support if it's taking longer than expected.

⚠️ Do this before connecting QuickBooks or JobTread
Both of these need to be set in Truss first. Doing it later can cause issues with how your invoices look and link for customers.

Payment Portal link. Log in to Truss and go to Settings → Payment Portal, then click Set Payment Portal Link.

Enter a Link ID — this becomes part of the public URL your customers use to pay — then click Set link.

⚠️ This can't be changed once set
Truss will ask you to confirm before finalizing. Choose your Link ID carefully — you won't be able to change it afterward.

Business logo. In Truss, go to Settings → Business and upload your logo. These two are what your customers see when they open an invoice to pay, so setting them up first makes sure invoices look and function correctly from day one.

Connect QuickBooks Online to Truss

Do this once. You'll move between Truss and QBO, which is normal.

  1. In Truss, go to Settings → Integrations, click Connect QuickBooks, then Get started, and sign in to QuickBooks.

  2. In QuickBooks, go to Transactions → Bank transactions → Link account, search for Truss Payments, and sign in with your Truss login.

  3. Tick each Truss account and choose the QBO account it posts to. Use a different QBO account for each one. The card account uses the Credit Card type.

  4. Post the two $0.01 entries for your cash account and each sub-account. Your card account doesn't need them.

For the full walkthrough with every screenshot, see Connect QuickBooks Online to Truss.

⚠️ Turn Automated Invoices OFF
If you use JobTread and QuickBooks Online, Automated Invoices must be OFF. In Truss, go to Settings → Integrations and make sure the Automated Invoices toggle on the QuickBooks Online card is off.

You'll set the General Ledger in two places
In Truss, posting the two $0.01 entries (step 4 above) tells Truss which QBO account to use. In JobTread, you set it under Settings → Integrations → QuickBooks Online (see "Set the General Ledger account in JobTread" below). Do both.

Turn off QBO's built-in "Pay now" button. By default, QBO invoices show a "Pay now" button that routes money to Intuit, not through Truss. In QBO, go to Gear icon → Account and Settings → Sales → Invoice payments and turn off Accept Credit Cards and Accept ACH. For screenshots, see Disable QBO Credit Card & ACH Payments.

You're connected!
In Truss, Settings → Integrations shows QuickBooks Online as Connected, and your cash account as Connected under Connected accounts. Bills will now sync automatically from QBO once the GL account is set in JobTread (see below).

Connect Truss inside JobTread

Once QBO is connected to Truss, this step takes about 2 minutes.

  1. Log in to JobTread as an admin.
  2. Go to Settings → Integrations.
  3. Find Truss in the list and click Connect.
  4. Log in with the Truss account you created earlier and authorize the connection.

You'll be asked to allow JobTread to access your Truss account — review the permissions and click Allow access.

Set the General Ledger account in JobTread

This is the second of two GL settings
Truss's GL is set when you post the two $0.01 entries (above). JobTread needs its own, so it knows a bill payment routed through JobTread came from your Truss cash account.

  1. In JobTread, go to Settings → Integrations → QuickBooks Online (separate from the Truss connection).

  2. Under Payment Accounts, set both Deposit To Account and Withdraw From Account to Truss - Cash Account. This is where the General Ledger is set in JobTread.

  3. Under Online Processors & Fees, turn on Specify accounts to track online payments, then set Payment Processing Deposit To to Truss - Cash Account. Save your changes.

Skip this step, and bill-payment source and payment method won't come through automatically — you'd need to manually add them for every bill payment yourself.

Disconnect Stripe (or other payment processors)

⚠️ Important
If Stripe or another payment processor is still connected in JobTread, customers may see more than one Pay option on their invoice. Truss should be the only payment method available.

  1. In JobTread, go to Settings → Integrations (or Settings → Payments, depending on your JobTread version).

  2. Look for Stripe or any other connected payment processor.

  3. Disconnect it, so Truss remains the only active payment method on invoices.

Once Truss is the only payment method, this is what customers will see on a JobTread invoice — the Truss option selected under Online Payment, with a single Pay Now button:

⚠️ Also double-check QBO itself
Since QuickBooks is connected in this setup, also confirm QBO's own "Pay now" button is turned off — see the Accept Credit Cards / Accept ACH step above. Otherwise customers may still see an Intuit-branded payment option alongside Truss.

How invoices & bills sync

Invoices come into Truss once someone clicks Pay Now
A JobTread invoice shows up in Truss after someone clicks Pay Now on it, either your customer or you. Sending it isn't enough on its own. It always comes in with your customer's name and details, whoever clicks.

Invoices: JobTread is the source of truth. QBO is bypassed entirely for invoicing, and invoices show up in Truss once someone clicks Pay Now on them.

Bills: bills can start in JobTread or QBO and flow through to Truss automatically (JobTread → QBO → Truss, or QBO → Truss directly) — but must always be paid from Truss. Paying elsewhere breaks the sync loop: QBO and JobTread won't know the bill was paid, and you risk paying it twice.

Once an invoice syncs, it shows up in Truss with a small JobTread icon next to its description — this is how you can tell an invoice originated in JobTread rather than being created directly in Truss:

Troubleshooting common issues

"My Truss account isn't fully active yet."
New accounts typically go through a verification step. Check back shortly, or contact support.

"I created an invoice in JobTread, but I don't see it in Truss."
Invoices show up in Truss once someone clicks Pay Now on the JobTread invoice. Check the invoice has been sent from JobTread, then open it and click Pay Now (you can do this yourself) and refresh Truss. There's no resync button. Still missing? Contact support.

"A customer paid, but I don't see it reflected in Truss."
Confirm the payment was made using the Pay button on the JobTread invoice. If it still doesn't appear after a few minutes, contact support with the invoice number.

"My customer sees more than one Pay button on their invoice."
Either Stripe (or another processor) is still connected in JobTread, or QBO's own "Pay now" button was never turned off. Disconnect Stripe in JobTread and confirm QBO's Accept Credit Cards / Accept ACH options are off under Account and Settings → Sales.

"A bill payment showed up, but I can't tell where it came from."
The GL account wasn't set in JobTread's QBO integration screen. Go to Settings → Integrations → QuickBooks Online in JobTread and set it — existing payments may need to be manually matched afterward.

"My bank feed in QBO isn't matching up with Truss."
In Truss, go to Settings → Integrations and click Reconnect on QuickBooks Online if it's offered. Then check your cash account shows Connected under Connected accounts, and that Deposit To Account and Withdraw From Account are set in JobTread under Settings → Integrations → QuickBooks Online. Reconciliation depends on both.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I create bills?
In either JobTread or QBO — both flow through automatically to Truss. No matter where a bill starts, always pay it from Truss.

Where do I set the General Ledger (GL) account?
In both places. In Truss, it's set when you post the two $0.01 entries in QBO. In JobTread, set Deposit To Account and Withdraw From Account under Settings → Integrations → QuickBooks Online.

Can I use Stripe or another payment processor alongside Truss in JobTread?
No — disconnect any other payment processor. Truss needs to be the only Pay button your customers see.
