Change the Receiving Account for an Invoice

Updated Oct 1, 2026

Choose which Truss account an invoice payment lands in: your Cash account or any of your sub-accounts.

How the receiving account works

Every invoice has a receiving account. That's the Truss account the money lands in when your customer pays. It's your primary account (Cash account) unless you change it. You'll find it on the invoice under Details, next to Receiving account.

The receiving account is set on each invoice, not on the customer. Changing it for one invoice doesn't change where that customer's other invoices are paid.

Change the receiving account

  1. In the sidebar, go to Payments, then Invoices, and select the invoice.
  2. Select the ⋯ button next to Copy payment link.
  3. Select Change receiving account.
  4. Choose the account you want the payment to land in. Each account shows its last four digits and available balance.

Send it to a new sub-account

Want this money kept separate from everything else? Select Create new Truss account at the top of the list to open a new sub-account for it. See Truss Sub-Accounts.

Good to know

  • Change it before your customer pays. You can't change the receiving account once the invoice is paid.
  • Already paid? Move the money with Transfer: choose the account it landed in under Where is it coming from? and the account you want under Where is it going?
  • Each invoice is separate. Change the receiving account on every invoice you want sent to a different account.
  • Your primary account doesn't change. Other payments keep going in and out of your Cash account.
