How to Pay Your Invoice

A step-by-step walkthrough for paying an invoice through your contractor's Truss payment portal — from the email you receive to your final receipt.

Step 1 · Open the invoice email

You'll receive an email letting you know a contractor has sent you an invoice through Truss. Click the Pay Invoice button to get started.

Heads up: For your security, never share this email or the payment link with anyone else.

Step 2 · Enter your email address

Type in your email to access your invoices. Make sure to use the same email address the invoice was sent to — this is how Truss matches you to the correct invoice.

Tip: Using a different email address than the one on the invoice will prevent you from seeing it.

Step 3 · Enter your verification code

Truss will send a 6-digit verification code to your email. Check your inbox, then enter the code on the screen to confirm it's really you.

Step 4 · You're in the payment portal

Once verified, you'll land on your contractor's invoice dashboard. If you don't see the invoice you're looking for, click Sync to refresh the list — it can take a few minutes for a new invoice to appear.

Step 5 · Choose the invoice to pay

Select the invoice you want to pay from the list. You'll see the full breakdown — invoice total, any amount already paid, and the remaining balance due.

Step 6 · Choose how you'd like to pay

Pick Credit card, Bank transfer (ACH), or turn on Split payment to pay part of the invoice with each. Every payment includes a platform fee of 3.25% + $0.30, and the total you see includes it. Pay by bank transfer and we waive it:

Payment methodPlatform fee
Credit cardIncluded in the total (3.25% + $0.30)
Bank transfer (ACH)Waived
Split paymentWaived on the bank transfer portion

Heads up: Chose credit card? Go to Step 7. Chose bank transfer? Go to Step 8. Splitting the payment? Go to Step 9.

Step 7 · Pay by credit card

Enter your card number, expiration, CVC, and billing address. Card details are securely processed by Stripe.

Enter card details form

Once your card is saved, review the subtotal, platform fee, and total due. Check the box to accept the Platform Fees Terms & Conditions, then click Pay.

Heads up: If you're paying with a card, please also check that pop-ups are allowed for this site. Allowing pop-ups will let the verification window appear so you can complete your payment.

Step 8 · Pay by bank transfer (ACH)

Confirm "Bank transfer (ACH)" is selected, then click Add bank account to connect via Plaid, Truss's secure bank-connection partner.

Follow the Plaid prompts: continue past the phone number screen, choose Instant linking, then search for and select your bank.

Log in with your online banking credentials, approve sharing your account and routing number, then choose the account to use.

If you chose "Manual"

Instead of logging in, you can manually enter your routing and account numbers. If you do this, your bank will need a day or two to verify the account before you can pay.

Truss will send a small micro-deposit to that account with a 3-letter verification code attached — this can take 1–2 business days to show up. Once it does, come back to this same Select accounts page and enter the code next to your bank account before you can check the terms box and pay.

Tip: Plaid encrypts your login and never shares it with Truss or your contractor — only your account and routing number are used.

Once your bank is linked, check the box to accept the terms, then click Pay.

Step 9 · Pay with a split payment

On the payment method screen, turn on the Split payment toggle. Both Credit card and Bank transfer (ACH) become selected.

Click Edit split amounts to choose how much goes on the card vs. your bank account — pick a quick amount or type a custom card amount. The breakdown updates live, with the platform fee waived on the bank transfer portion.

Tip: You'll need both a card and a bank account on file to complete a split payment — follow Step 7 to add a card and Step 8 to connect a bank account.

Once both are added, you'll see them together with two terms boxes to check — one authorizing the ACH debit, one for the platform fee — then click Pay.

Step 10 · Payment complete

You'll see a confirmation with your full receipt. From here you can download your receipt as a record, or click Done to return to your invoice dashboard.

Step 11 · Find your paid invoices anytime

Head back to the dashboard and click the Paid tab to see every invoice you've paid, along with the date each one was paid.
