What Your Vendors See When They Accept a Payment
On this page
A step-by-step look at the payment notification, acceptance, and payout flow your vendors and subcontractors go through when you send them a payment.
1. The payment notification email
When you send a vendor or subcontractor a payment, they'll receive an email letting them know money is waiting for them. The email includes the amount, a description of the payment, and an Accept Payment Now button.
2. Getting started
Clicking the button in the email brings them to a secure Truss checkout page confirming a payment is waiting. From here, they'll click Get started to continue.
3. Reviewing and accepting the payment
Next, they'll see their payment listed with the amount, invoice details, and status. After reviewing it, they'll click Accept payment to move forward.
4. Choosing how to get paid
They'll then choose how they'd like to receive the funds. If they've been paid by you before, their previously linked bank account will already be saved here as a quick option. Otherwise, they can choose from:
- Truss Account — instant, no fee (opening a Truss account is recommended, but not mandatory)
- Bank Transfer (ACH) — 1–2 business days, no fee
- Debit Card — instant, 1.75% fee (the card must be in their own name)
- Mailed Check — 5–7 business days, no fee
5. Connecting a bank account
If they select Bank Transfer (ACH) or a Truss Account and don't have a bank linked yet, they'll be prompted to connect one — either securely through Plaid for instant verification, or by entering their routing and account number manually.
Connecting with Plaid may prompt them for a phone number to speed up future logins — this step is optional and can be skipped.
Tip: Once a vendor or subcontractor has accepted a payment and linked a payout method, that method is remembered — future payments won't require them to reconnect anything.
