Who Pays the Platform Fee?
On this page
The default: your customer pays the platform fee
Every invoice payment includes a platform fee of 3.25% + $0.30. By default, your customer pays it, and the total they see includes it before they confirm.
Tip: Pay by bank transfer (ACH) and we waive the platform fee in full. Most Truss clients see their customers switch to bank transfer once they know the fee is waived.
Cover the platform fee yourself
If you'd rather cover the platform fee for your customers, so they pay exactly the invoice amount, turn off the platform fee toggle:
-
Go to Settings → Payment Portal.
-
Find the platform fee toggle under Payments.
-
Toggle it Off.
-
Confirm by selecting Yes, turn off.
When this is off, the platform fee comes out of your Truss Cash account instead of being included in your customer's total. We still waive it on bank transfer payments. You can turn the setting back on at any time, and the change takes effect immediately.
Heads up: If you cover the platform fee and a customer pays a $10,000 invoice by card, $0.30 + $325 = $325.30 comes out of your Truss account. Factor this into your pricing before turning it off for all customers.
Changing back
You can switch back to your customer paying the platform fee at any time: go to Settings → Payment Portal and turn the platform fee toggle back on. The change is instant, so there's no need to resend any invoices.
