What is Truss?
Truss is a business banking and payments platform built specifically for construction companies. With Truss you can:
-
Collect payments from customers via invoice or payment portal

-
Pay vendors and subcontractors by direct deposit or mailed check

-
Issue charge cards to your team with custom spending limits

-
Deposit checks from your phone

-
Sync everything with QuickBooks Online automatically
-
Run payroll directly from Truss — your account comes with real routing and account numbers, so any payroll provider (Gusto, ADP, QuickBooks Payroll, etc.) can pull from Truss just like a regular business checking account
-
Receive wire transfers and ACH payments from customers or partners using your Truss routing number
Tip: Truss gives you a real business checking account with actual routing and account numbers — you can use it anywhere a bank account is accepted, including payroll, vendor ACH setups, and wire transfers.
Is Truss the same as a regular bank account?
Truss functions like a business checking account. You can send and receive money, deposit checks, and issue cards. Your funds are held at Thread Bank (Member FDIC) and distributed across partner banks, giving you FDIC coverage up to $3,000,000. Truss is not a traditional bank — it's a fintech platform that partners with Thread Bank to offer banking services.
Tip: Truss accounts earn interest on deposited balances. Check your current rate in the app under Accounts → Cash.
Who can open a Truss account?
Truss is open to US-based construction businesses. To apply you'll need:
- A valid EIN (Employer Identification Number)
- Business formation documents (e.g., Articles of Incorporation or Organization)
- A government-issued ID for any owner with 25% or more ownership
We're required to collect personal and business information by federal law (the Bank Secrecy Act) to verify your identity. Most applications are reviewed quickly — see the FAQ below for typical timing.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take to get approved?
Most accounts are reviewed and approved within 1–2 business days. If we need additional documentation to verify your business, we'll reach out by email — responding quickly helps keep things moving.
Can I open a Truss account as a sole proprietor or if I don't have an EIN?
Yes!
Does opening a Truss account affect my credit?
Opening a Truss account does not require a hard credit pull, so applying won't impact your credit score.
Are there monthly fees or minimum balance requirements?
None.
Can someone other than the owner start the application?
A team member like a bookkeeper or office manager can help gather information and begin the application, but an owner with 25%+ ownership will need to verify their identity to complete it.
