Card Refunds — How They Appear in Truss

Where refunds appear

When a merchant refunds a charge to your Truss card, the refund appears on your Expenses dashboard as a positive amount with a "+" sign. This is different from a regular expense, which shows as a negative number.

How refunds affect your card balance

Refunds reduce the amount you owe on your card repayment:

  • The refund is applied immediately to your outstanding card balance.
  • At the end of each business day, your card balance settles from your Truss Cash account. The refund reduces how much is pulled from Cash.
  • If you've already repaid the charges that were refunded, the refund creates a credit on your card account — visible as a negative balance due.

Tip: A card credit (negative balance due) carries forward and offsets future charges. You don't need to do anything — it applies automatically.

If the refund amount exceeds your card balance

If a refund is larger than your current card balance (for example, you were refunded $500 but only had $200 in charges), the excess credit stays on your card account and reduces future repayments. It does not automatically transfer to your Cash account.

Refund timing

Most refunds appear within 3–5 business days after the merchant processes them. This depends on the merchant and their bank — Truss can't speed this up. If a refund hasn't appeared after 7 business days, contact the merchant first.

Heads up: A credit on your card account is NOT the same as cash in your Cash account. If you need those funds available for other payments, contact support to discuss options.
