Create & Send an Invoice
On this page
Get paid faster by sending a professional invoice straight from Truss — pick whichever path is quickest for you.
Two ways to create an invoice
Truss gives you two starting points for the same invoice flow — use whichever is faster depending on where you already are in the app.
Quick Actions → Request a Payment
- Click Quick Actions in the top navigation.
- Under Get Paid, click Request a payment.
Payments → Invoices → Create Invoice
- Click Payments in the left sidebar, then select Invoices.
- Click Create invoice.

Both paths open the same Create invoice window.
Add a customer
Tap the customer field to search your existing customers, or add a new one. For a new customer, enter:
- Name — the business or person name, shown on the invoice.
- Email (optional) — needed if you plan to email the invoice.
- Email address 2 (optional) — a second recipient, such as a bookkeeper.
- Mobile phone (optional) — needed only if you plan to text the invoice; never shared with anyone else.
Fill in the invoice details
- Search for or add the customer you're invoicing.
- Enter the amount and a short description — this shows on the invoice (80 character limit).
- Set the due date: On receipt, Net 15, Net 30, or a custom date.

⚠️ QuickBooks users: create invoices in QBO, not here
If you use QuickBooks Online, create all invoices in QBO — they automatically sync to Truss within 1–3 minutes. You get QBO's reporting AND Truss's payment processing without double-entry. See Connect QuickBooks Online to Truss for setup.
⚠️ JobTread users: create invoices in JobTread, not here
If you manage jobs in JobTread and have it integrated with Truss, create customer invoices there. They come into Truss for payment processing once someone clicks Pay Now on them. Other JobTread records, like change orders, don't sync. See Truss + JobTread: FAQ for setup.
Choose how it's delivered
Toggle on Email and/or Text message to send the invoice directly — Truss pulls the customer's email and phone number once you've selected them. Use Edit to change the address or number for this invoice only.
⚠️ Use the customer's own email, not a shared alias
Make sure the address you enter belongs to the customer — not a team distribution list or an internal alias. The invoice link is tied to that email for verification, so sending it to the wrong address can prevent the customer from accessing or paying it.
Add a message or attachment
Add a short note and/or attach a file (like a quote or job photo) to send along with the invoice. The customer sees this alongside their payment link.
Add an internal memo
Add a note for your own records — visible only to your team, never the customer.

Send it and what happens next
- Review the total, then click Send [amount] invoice.
- You'll see an Invoice sent confirmation with the invoice ID, due date, delivery method, and a copyable pay link.
- From here you can View invoice to track opens and payment, or Create another for the same customer in one click.

What your customer sees
The customer receives an email or text with a Pay Invoice button. They click it, verify their email with a one-time code, and pay by bank transfer or card. No Truss account required.
